Over the past weekend more than 19.000 people attended the EuroBirdwatch 2022, the biggest European birdwaching event. 35 national partners of BirdLife International across Europe and Central Asia invited people to more than 750 different events to observe the fascinating bird migration and see more than 4.6 million birds on their way southwards to their wintering places.

'Dim the lights for birds at night! ' was the theme of the World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2022, celebrated on May 14th by BirdLife International partner organizations in more than 100 countries of the world! On this day, the Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds presented Uzbekistan on the international WMBD map. More than 300 people in 3 regions of Uzbekistan took part in events dedicated to protection of migratory birds.

In the beginning of April in Uzbekistan, on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds (UzSPB), the International Bird Day, the oldest children's ecological event, was celebrated for the 15th time. The history of the Bird Day dates back to 1894, when this event was first celebrated in the United States. In our country, this ecological date has been celebrated annually since 2007. On this Bird Day, UzSPB managed to draw attention of more than 1,140 people, including over 390 children, to the bird-heralds of spring living in our neighborhood. Educational activities in honor of the Bird Day in 6 regions of Uzbekistan reached 17 schools, 2 academic lyceums and 5 universities.

February

'Wetlands action for people and nature' was the theme of the World Wetlands Day celebrated in early February in countries that adopted the Ramsar Convention on wetlands of International importance, mainly as habitats for waterfowl birds. In early February, on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds, 3 events were organized in Uzbekistan dedicated to the study and protection of biodiversity of wetlands. More than 50 people took part in the meetings dedicated to actions in support of wetlands held in Jizzakh, Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions.

January

The International Winterbird Census (IWC), held annually in Uzbekistan on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds, in January-February 2022 covered 10 water bodies important for wintering birds in 8 regions of the country. 58 participants of the IWC counts registered over 78 thousand waterbirds of 51 species, including 12 species listed in the National and International Red Data Books.
