Last Spring Alive season was the most eventful and vivid for Uzbekistan. As Spring Alive interim report shows, the programme reached over eight million people in 41 countries of Europe and Central Asia. It is three million more than in the previous year! The good news is that Uzbekistan and UzSPB were featured and mentioned in this report several times.

21,704 people attended this year's EuroBirdwatch, the biggest European birdwatching event hosted by 41 national partner organisations of BirdLife International in Europe and Central Asia. EuroBirdwatch 2017 was the most successful in the whole history of this event celebration in Uzbekistan. The three most observed species in our country were Mallard (20,185), Corn Bunting (12,000) and Coot (4,731). The total number of birds observed in Uzbekistan was 50,684!

Autumn migration is in progress and this means that it is time for the 24th EuroBirdwatch, common event of BirdLife Partnership for promoting the protection of migrating birds and flyways. 28 BirdLife Partners have already registered for this event. On 30 September EBW counts and educational events will be organized in five regions of Uzbekistan by Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds.

On 19 August 2017, UzSPB continued to give out plastic bags for garbage collection on the border post Karabulak. As a result, 70 tourists collected and brought back to the city 33 big plastic bags with garbage. The outcome of this action trebled compared to the first action on Karabulak.

While the summer heat is getting down, more and more tourists come to Urungoch lake and leave there a lot of waste. Therefore, UzSPB tried another approach under umbrella of the Van Tienhoven project 'Piloting a community-based approach to ecosystems conservation in Uzbekistan'. On 12 August 2017, UzSPB started giving out plastic bags for garbage collection on the border post Karabulak. As a result, 160 tourists collected and brought back to the city 10 big plastic bags with garbage.
