As you already know, in 2008 Uzbekistan joined the internet-based database about birds, their science and distribution www.wordbirds.org. The name of the Central Asian module is AviCA (Avis of Central Asia). AviCA allows users from anywhere in the world to enter and query bird observations in Central Asia. From the date of the latest news we have many new in our database AviCA ("Avis of Central Asia"). 100 people already registered to AviCA! They are ornithologists, birdwatchers, students, nature protection organizations officers.

AviCA allows users from anywhere in the world to enter and query bird observations in Central Asia. Now we have interesting records for scientists and birdwatchers. According to data on February 2010 AviCA contains data on 344 visits in Central Asia. It is 6268 records of 359 bird species. You could see on the map all places of visits. Unfortunately many of them are from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. We hope that this situation will change and AviCA will activate in other countries of our region.

AviCA assumes ever greater importance for research and conservation globally threatened species. According to IUCN Red List (http://www.iucnredlist.org/) AviCA contains data on 27 globally threatened bird species. These are Dalmatian Pelican Pelecanus crispus, Lesser White-fronted Goose Anser erythropus, Red-breasted Goose Branta ruficollis, Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca, Marbled Teal Marmaronetta angustirostris, White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala, Pallas's Fish-eagle Haliaeetus leucoryphus, Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus, Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus, Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus, Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga, Imperial Eagle Aquila heliaca, Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni, Red-footed Falcon Falco vespertinus, Saker Falcon Falco cherrug, Corncrake Crex crex, Great Bustard Otis tarda, Houbara Bustard Chlamydotis undulata, Little Bustard Tetrax tetrax, Black-winged Pratincole Glareola nordmanni, Great Snipe Gallinago media, Sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius, Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa, Eurasian Curlew Numenius arquata, Slender-billed Curlew Numenius tenuirostris, Relict Gull Larus relictus, European Roller Coracias garrulus.
