PROJECT OF CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME (CLP)

On May, 2010 UzSPB started realization of Conservation Leadership Programme's (CLP) project "Research and IBA identification of 3 territories in collaboration with students in Uzbekistan". The project is designed for 2 years. It plans to spend research of 3 territories and their identification as IBA in collaboration with UzSPB. Besides these the public awareness work with the local community will be carried out. The project is directed on capacity building of members from team members and also 20 students from birdwatching clubs network through trainings and research and local community works.

Project Aim: to evaluate 3 little known, but potentially high important Important Bird Areas (IBAs) through collaboration and capacity building of a student birdwatching club network.

Objectives:

• Increase the capacity of project team members and students of a birdwatching club network in bird census and monitoring techniques.
• Monitor bird populations and threat status of 3 potentially high important IBAs
• Raise awareness of local communities towards the importance of their region (IBAs and globally threatened species).

Research of project territories:

• Ayakaghitma - 16-30th October 2010 and 2nd-17th April 2011 (Participants: "Ivolga" and "Flamingo" clubs);
• Akpetky - 31st October - 7th November 2010 and 4-10th April 2011 (Participants: "Otus" club);
• Shavazsay - 20th May - 5th June 2010 (Participants: "Phasianus" and "Ivolga" clubs).
